Do I need any prior experience to join?

No - students of all skill levels are welcome! We have a great team with a broad range of experience to cater to beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Remember: everyone has a first practice.

Can I try it out before signing up?

Absolutely! Come try out any of our classes to get a feel for our academy, free of charge! Just please be sure to sign our waiver of liability before you participate. Bring flip-flops or footwear for off the mat, comfortable gym clothes, and a water bottle, as we have a filtered water source but no drinking fountain.

Do I need to bring a gi/boxing gear?

You are welcome to bring your own gi, but if you are new, we recommend letting us help you find the right one for you. We have wholesale accounts with several suppliers and are able to provide heavily discounted gis and gear.

Are there kids classes?

Yes - Little Bulldogs! We have a hybridized Judo & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class for kids 6-12. This is an excellent way for kids to learn confidence, respect, discipline, maturity, coordination, balance, and focus all with exercise and fun.

How often are the mats cleaned?

We take hygiene very seriously. The mats are cleaned after every practice with a virucide/bacteriocide/fungucide cleaner. While cleaning protocols are strict, we still recommend covering as much skin as possible during practice.

Where do I park?

There is street parking on Monmouth and the surrounding blocks and a free parking lot across the street from the academy.

Do I have to compete?

You may engage in as much or as little competition as you like. You will likely be encouraged to compete for the sake of growth, but you are in no way obligated to participate in any form of competition. We have a very experienced pool of resources to help you train well, identify opportunities, and develop your game.

How much are private lessons?

Pricing for private lessons is a negotiation between you and the instructor you want to train with. Factors to consider may be experience of the instructor, whether the private is adjacent to an already scheduled training time (to eliminate travel time), and the number of privates you would like to purchase (bundle discount). Most privates likely fall in the $30-$70/hour range.

Do you offer discounts for Veterans, Law Enforcement, and Firefighters?

Yes - with proper documented proof, there is a 15% discount.
